Welcome to ON OUR MOON, a small corner of the internet that feels like a (maternal) hug, exploring the realm of womanhood, matriarchy, and everything in between.

Hi! I’m Alex(andra) D’amour, and this small corner is where I examine topics within womanhood, or as some wise women might say, the experience of maiden, mother, and crone. I believe women hold a radical, innate ability to change and heal the world, if we allow ourselves the space to reconsider our frames of thinking. I want to ask hard questions and explore the discomforts of our own belief systems so we can consider a world that embraces female consciousness and potential. How do we amplify our voices? How do we harness our power as women? How do we (finally) create a matriarchy?

I rarely feel represented when it comes to discussions on motherhood (and adulting in general), so my hope is that this space, both through writing and events, reflects the complexities of what it means to be a woman in this deliriously beautiful and sometimes pretty messed up world.

As a free subscriber, you’ll get access to my best work (most everything on here is and will be free!). As a paid subscriber (for $10 per month), you will have access to the comment section and (at least) one monthly event. Sometimes it’ll be a workshop I’ll teach, other times there will be a guest speaker or a live-interview. In a world obsessed with hyper individualism and narrow perspectives, I think it’s important we break bread together (or in this case, connect our wombs in a non-weird, witchy way).

A dear friend of mine, who is younger than me, recently told me my writing feels like a maternal hug, and while some topics I write about will push the boundaries of our comfort, I hope this space feels exactly like that. So many of us ache for the warmth and wisdom of a mother. Let’s be that for each other. Let’s get deep, let’s get weird, let’s get radical and witchy, and most importantly, let’s get maternal.

BIG (MATERNAL) INTERNET HUGS,

Alex

We need to imagine a world in which every woman is the presiding genius of her own body. In such a world women will truly create new life, bringing forth not only children (if and as we choose) but the visions, and the thinking, necessary to sustain, console, and alter human existence – a new relationship to the universe. Sexuality, politics, intelligence, power, motherhood, work, community, intimacy will develop new meanings; the thinking itself will be transformed. This is where we have to begin. — Adrienne Rich
